iManage Work cloud readiness: plan the data, integrations and user experience together
A DMS migration is highly visible because almost every lawyer and business-services team touches it. Technical readiness therefore needs to cover data movement, security, integrations, desktop experience, search and adoption as one programme.

Understand the current information estate
Document Work databases, libraries, workspaces, metadata, document volumes, retention requirements and known data-quality issues. Migration design is much easier when the shape and quality of the source data are known.
Map the systems that depend on the DMS
Matter intake, finance, email filing, document production, search, security tools and other legal applications may all integrate with iManage. Record each dependency, owner, authentication method and target-state approach.
Treat security and governance as design inputs
Access controls, ethical walls, need-to-know policies, records management and threat protection should be tested as part of the migration. Security should not be left until after content has moved.
Plan desktop and Microsoft 365 change
A technically correct back-end migration can still produce a poor user experience if desktop components, Office integration, email filing and device deployment are not rehearsed. Include representative user groups and support teams.
Use the migration to improve data quality where sensible
Cloud migration can be an opportunity to remove redundant repositories, consolidate libraries or correct metadata, but every clean-up activity adds scope. Decide deliberately what belongs in the migration and what should be a separate improvement workstream.
